The Agronomist & Operations Specialist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality agronomic support and precision agriculture services to A1 Agronomy’s producers. This position combines technical field expertise, operational execution, data integrity, and relationship management to ensure clients receive timely, data-driven, and practical agronomic advice. The role supports A1 Agronomy’s mission to provide innovative, precise, and profitable farming solutions across the Prairie region.

Agronomic & Technical Expertise
  • Agronomic Expertise: Conducts soil sampling, field scouting, crop assessments, and data interpretation aligned with A1 Agronomy’s technical standards and regional practices.
  • Precision Agriculture Application: Utilizes SWAT MAPS, ADMS, GPS tools, and other precision technology to deliver accurate, actionable insights that drive yield and sustainability.
  • Ground-Truthing and Field Verification: Performs ground-truthing activities to validate map accuracy, confirm agronomic conditions, and ensure precision application reliability.
  • Crop and Fertility Planning: Develops both composite and variable-rate fertilizer and crop plans that align with producer goals, environmental standards, and agronomic best practices.
  • Trial and Research Participation: Coordinates and monitors agronomic trials and government-funded research projects, ensuring accurate setup, data collection, and reporting.
Operational & Technological Coordination
  • Operational Coordination: Manages logistics for fieldwork, soil sampling, mapping, and data processing, ensuring smooth execution of seasonal workflows and client deliverables.
  • Technology Support: Provides support and troubleshooting for precision equipment and machine controllers to ensure seamless integration and functionality in the field.
  • Data Accuracy and Compliance: Maintains 100% accuracy in all data entry, reporting, and digital recordkeeping, adhering to internal and external compliance requirements.
Relationship Management & Communication
  • Client Relationship Management: Builds strong professional relationships with producers, providing timely communication, follow-up, and trusted agronomic advice that supports long-term retention.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Translates technical data into clear, practical recommendations and collaborates with team members to enhance workflow efficiency and service quality.
  • Public Engagement: Represents A1 Agronomy at producer meetings, field days, and local events, contributing to community engagement and industry visibility.

  • Public Engagement: Participates in or helps coordinate a minimum of three producer meetings, field days, or outreach events annually.

  • Precision Agriculture Tools (preferred)
    • EM38/EM sensor units (Soil electrical conductivity mapping)
    • RTK GPS systems used in SWAT Map development
    • GPS scouting systems (iPads with GIS apps or equivalent)
    • Variable Rate mapping software (AgLeader, SMS, or similar)

    • Microsoft Excel (recording and analyzing data)
    • SWAT RECORDS app for crop planning and agronomy documentation

Qualifications
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in Agronomy, Precision Agriculture, or Crop Consulting.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related discipline. Certification as a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) is an asset.
  • Other Requirements: Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel regularly within the service area. Registration or eligibility for membership with the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Institutes of Agrologists. 
Working Conditions
  • Field-based role working in and around Melita, MB, with daily regional travel.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Hours fluctuate depending on weather and agronomy workload (e.g., working when weather allows; reduced hours during limited field access). Overtime may be required
  • Fast-paced environment with increased activity during peak seasonal periods.
