PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Team Lead, the Camp Counsellor will work collaboratively within a team to provide care and support for individuals with disabilities throughout all camp programs. The Camp Counsellor plays a key role in fostering an inclusive environment where all campers feel valued and accepted during their time at camp. The position requires the Camp Counsellor to ensure each camper receives personal care, behavior management, and supervision in a safe, respectful, and nurturing manner. The Camp Counsellor will be on-site 24 hrs a day while campers are present, providing continuous support and guidance throughout their camp experience.

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Help plan, lead, and facilitate group activities, games, and crafts for campers, while encouraging their participation in activities around the facility. This includes both indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
  • Support campers during daily activities and transitions to those activities, morning and evening routines, and mealtimes. Assist campers with lifts and transfers as taught in orientation
  • Support campers when they might feel distressed and encourage a positive outlook, while building strong relationships with the campers
  • Provide personal care for campers as needed including but not limited to feeding, bathing, toileting, and dressing. Recognize and support each camper’s specific needs, providing the best possible physical and emotional care while assisting in behavior management when applicable
  • Maintain a clean and organized cabin while encouraging campers to take an active role in daily cabin clean-up
  • Participate and encourage camper participation at all camp activities, always engaging with campers whether they participate or not.
