Employment Period: July-August
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday
Department: Recreation
Location: Municipality of Russell Binscarth and surrounding communities

Position Summary

The Day Camp Assistant works alongside the Day Camp Leader to support day‑to‑day operations of the Rural Rotating Summer Day Camp program. This position begins in July when camps begin and focuses on child supervision, program delivery, and maintaining a safe and fun camp environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering daily camp activities
  • Help supervise and ensure the safety of all campers
  • Support the Day Camp Leader in running games, crafts, outings, and special events
  • Assist with preparing supplies and setting up activity spaces
  • Help clean up and organize materials at the end of each day
  • Interact positively with children and support their engagement
  • Assist with check‑in/check‑out procedures
  • Communicate politely and effectively with parents/guardians when needed
  • Help maintain clean, safe activity and play spaces
  • Keep camp supplies organized and report any needs or concerns to the Day Camp Leader
  • Support flexibility within day‑to‑day programming needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license & access to vehicle
  • Valid (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search (if 18+)
  • Valid (within 6 months) Child Abuse Registry Check (if 18+)

Student Eligibility

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • A recent high school graduate entering post-secondary education in Fall 2026; or
  • A current post-secondary student
  • A high school student

Assets

  • Previous experience in day camps, childcare, or youth programming
  • Experience in recreation, sports leadership or community group leadership
  • Experience creating posters, social media posts, or other promotional content

Compensation

  • Above minimum wage
  • Higher wages offered for returning students
