Contract: Permanent Contract, Full-time
Location: Adult Education Centres in Killarney, Boissevain, and Swan Lake, MB
Work Hours: Flexible; Instructional day is five hours and fifty minutes, averaged over the week.
Effective Date: September 1, 2026
Salary: As per the Provincial Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement, plus an administrative allowance.
Assignment: 0.6 FTE administration and 0.4 FTE teaching duties

About the Turtle Mountain Adult Education Centre:

The Turtle Mountain Adult Education Centre is an inclusive, learner-centred learning environment serving residents aged 19+ from across Manitoba and referred high school students. The Centre’s mandate is to remove barriers to learning and provide flexible, supportive educational pathways for learners to achieve their High School Diploma, upgrade skills for employment, or prepare for post-secondary education. The Centre provides quality education to approximately 100 students in teacher-led, independent-learning and online formats, with instructional support provided in person at physical sites in Killarney, Boissevain, and Swan Lake. The Centre prioritizes improving literacy and numeracy and developing essential skills through individualized learner plans. It fosters a safe, welcoming environment grounded in strong relationships, professional support, and a commitment to lifelong learning and student success.

Reporting to the Superintendent/CEO, the Education Director, Turtle Mountain Adult Education Centre, is responsible for administering the Centre’s educational and financial matters in compliance with legislation and Board policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Centre's organization and operation, including management of enrollment, collection and maintenance of accurate, confidential student records.
  • Implement and oversee the Centre’s educational programs, ensuring the courses taught are appropriate to the needs of the learners and comply with ministerial credit standards.
  • Prepare and submit an annual operating budget, financial plans, and statistical reports to the Registrar, Manitoba Adult Learning and Literacy.
  • Create and revise individualized learning plans so they remain current with the learner’s intended outcomes.
  • Teach a variety of Senior Years courses, develop materials/resources, and monitor learner progress.
  • Accommodate, conduct, supervise and mark tests, as well as report test results in a manner directed by the minister.
  • Supervise Teaching and Educational Assistant staff and coordinate with the Student Services team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate.
  • One of the following or an equivalent combination of education and experience:
    • Certificate, diploma or degree in adult education, or have completed at least one year of graduate studies in education.
    • Master’s or doctoral degree in education or adult education.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Manitoba Senior Years curricula and knowledge of current concepts in education, including adult secondary education and adult literacy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across diverse groups.
  • Familiarity with Manitoba’s education systems, related legislation, policies and programs is preferred, i.e., Adult Learning Centres Act and Regulations, Adult Literacy Act, Education Administration Act, Advanced Education Act, Public Schools Act, Mature Student High School Diploma, the Manitoba Stages Framework, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with successful experience in administration, including financial management, budgeting, preparing reports and funding applications, staff assessment and development, program planning and analysis.
