As the Temporary Summer Meter Reader, you will attend various residential premises in all areas of the City of Winnipeg to obtain water meter readings. You will also inspect upstream plumbing, meters and sealing wires, as well as abnormal consumption, to ensure all consumption is being metered.
As the Temporary Summer Meter Reader you will:
- Attend customer’s premises to obtain water meter readings.
- Inspect meters to ensure integrity of seal wire and seal/reseal water meters as required.
- Identify and document meter tampering, non-working meters and unauthorized use.
- Identify abnormal consumption and possible causes.
- Identify new occupancy, inactivity or incomplete account information.
Your education and qualifications include:
- High School Graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience; and minimum one year post-secondary.
- Demonstrated relevant customer service experience.
- Basic knowledge of domestic plumbing.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public at times under stressful conditions.
- Self-motivation, ability to make logical decisions.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position in various weather conditions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
- Personal vehicle for job duties is required (no exceptions).
- A Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.

Successful applicants must be available for pre-registration on April 15, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., April 16, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30p.m., April 21, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or April 22, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1199 Pacific Ave (only 1 session required), and must be available to start April 27, 2020.
Successful applicants must also be available for mandatory training from Monday, April 27, 2020 to Friday May 1, 2020 from 8:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The salary range for this position is $19.40/hour (plus $1.20/hour night shift premium).
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday – 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (6.5 hours per shift).
Term positions from April 27 – August 28, 2020.
Successful applicants will be required to complete job specific training required for this position as directed.
The successful applicant will be required to provide a Notice of Driver’s Licence In Force document upon request.
