Brandon University eyes 2030 with launch of strategic planning process

Brandon University has embarked on an extensive consulting and planning process as it seeks to develop a new strategic plan to guide the institution for the coming decade.

President David Docherty launched the planning process last week at a General Faculty Council.

“Brandon University is a great university, with many strengths and opportunities, and we share a firm set of values that has us poised to take good advantage of our ambition,” he said. “Over the coming months we will ensure that the entire campus is involved in choosing how to best focus our efforts and where we can have the most impact.”

The process of developing a strategic plan will begin with extensive consultation, both on- and off-campus, and will involve all areas of the university as well as neighbours and partners in the wider community.

Information about the plan, including its development, will be housed online at BrandonU.ca/Strategic-Plan. The website also includes an open feedback form for anyone to contribute their ideas, comments and questions.

Brandon University aims to submit a plan to the Board of Governors by Fall 2020. However, BU will not be spinning its wheels until then.

“We can lay the groundwork for a successful Strategic Plan over the coming year by making progress in areas that could support any future ambition, including by further developing our BU Foundation, by investing in and promoting our student success and our research, and by making progress on our commitment and responsibility to Reconciliation,” Docherty said. “There is some hard yet satisfying work in front of us, and I am so eager to hear more great ideas about how we will build the future of BU.”
