Fall Term Covid-19 precautions announced in July remain in place

August 4, 2021

Safety precautions, such as masking indoors and physical distancing, will remain in place as Brandon University continues to follow its cautious plan for re-opening as laid out in July.

For the upcoming Fall Term, BU’s Phase Grey mid-level precautions will include a limit of 25 students for most in-person classes, with space for physical distancing maintained. Masks remain mandatory in indoor learning and public spaces, and enhanced cleaning protocols continue to be in place.

The University is encouraged by the vaccination uptake and decreasing Covid-19 test positivity rates as Manitoba’s re-opening continues, while remaining committed to providing safe learning, recreational, cultural and community spaces on campus. Precautions that in some cases exceed public health orders are remaining in effect to ensure that all members of the BU community are safe and can feel comfortable as they adjust to a greater level of in-person learning during this transition year. The University remains committed to this transition and hopes that continued progress in the fight against Covid-19 will allow for even more classes on campus for the Winter Term in January. Many in-person services will resume in the coming weeks, with more details on those to be announced shortly.

Vaccination remains an essential part of BU’s re-opening plan. Vaccination rates in Canada and locally are encouraging, but there is still more that can be done to ensure the safety of all members of the community. Everyone who is capable of taking a vaccine is encouraged to do so before returning to campus. While it would be ideal to have everyone fully vaccinated before their arrival, in some cases this may not be possible. In these cases the University is committed to working with individuals to complete their vaccination once they arrive. As circumstances change, BU is continuing to work with Shared Health, the Province of Manitoba and with students, faculty and staff to do everything within their means to ensure that everyone who is able receives their full vaccination.

Everyone who has been fully vaccinated is encouraged to take part in BU’s Winning Shot program by visiting  BrandonU.ca/winning-shot.
