- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be eligible for membership in the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists with a Professional Agrologist designation and able to obtain the membership once successful.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's license with the ability to travel throughout Manitoba
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or similar related discipline. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in crop agronomy including the detection, identification, and management of pests in field crops. *specific to crops positions only*
- Experience with crop production management. *specific to crops positions only*
- Experience in ruminant livestock production, forage production, and/or rangeland production. *specific to livestock positions only*
- Knowledge of ruminant livestock production practices on the Canadian prairies. *specific to livestock positions only*
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively prepare and deliver training presentations and training events.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects and undertake necessary research and information gathering to keep current on issues/trends in the industry.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
The Agriculture Adaptation Specialist - Crops delivers extension and regional programs and projects related to crop production. The specialist provides crops surveillance and pest monitoring in a specific region; and provides crop production management advice and support to primary agricultural producers to make science based profitable, productive and environmentally sustainable management decisions. The Agriculture Adaptation Specialist- Crops will work closely with other branch and department specialists in implementing programming.
The Agriculture Adaptation Specialist - Livestock delivers extension and regional programs and projects related to productivity, profitability, and sustainability for livestock, forage, and rangeland production. The incumbent will provide management advice in these areas to primary producers; and supports applied livestock and forage demonstration and research trials.
