Duties:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic the Director, Research Partnerships and Innovation (RPI) is accountable for the overall success of the applied research enterprise at Red River College, in support of its vision, mission and mandate. RRC's Applied Research activities, facilities and programs provide direct support for Manitoba’s competitive advantage and labour market. This position facilitates the delivery and integration of applied research across the College, both within the RPI Department and in collaboration with Academic Schools, as an important element of RRC’s academic transformation. As a key leadership position for the College, the successful Director requires: strategic and entrepreneurial vision; strong HR and budget management; a focus on positive relationships leading to action and outcomes; establishment of a collaborative, team-oriented culture; attraction and maintenance of strong research partnerships, including external funders; on-going stewardship of internal research collaborations within the College, including involvement of students, faculty and RPI specialists; and successful management of external relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, government, industry and PSE partners to directly benefit Manitoba's economic and social development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and post-graduate (Master’s or Ph.D.) degrees; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Extensive experience in progressively responsible positions, with a leadership style that combines a capacity for strategic vision, entrepreneurial approach, partnership and collaboration, strong financial planning and revenue generation
  • Significant experience working in or with industry
  • Experience in directing and overseeing major capital/facility projects and multi-million dollar operational budgets
  • Extensive experience directly related to complex budget development, variance analysis and forecasting within a large complex organization
  • Demonstrated experience in attracting funding including developing and sustaining partnerships withindustry, government, funding and granting organizations and community agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a fast paced, highly demanding environment.
  • Ability to assess priorities, analyze and diagnose problems and meet strict deadlines
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, including providing high level briefing notes and presentations to senior leaders and key stakeholders
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to create effective organizational design, build a strong team and effectively manage HR issues within a unionized environment
  • Significant knowledge of, and experience in, the Canadian innovation ecosystem
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear vision and lead a team through coaching and mentoring others

Assets:

  • Experience as faculty at a Canadian College or University and experience working with student applied research projects
  • Education and/or direct experience in one of the College's areas of research strength
  • Knowledge of the Applied Research enterprise within a College setting
  • Experience with project management and change management processes
  • Experience working with Indigenous partners
