Here is a chance to be equal parts mentor, leader, visionary, and community liaison. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westman (BBBSW) is seeking an experienced, inclusive, and strategic Executive Director to lead our growing organization.

 About the Role

The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for implementing and achieving the policies and goals of the BBBSW non-profit agency set out by the Board of Directors and adheres to the National Standards as set out by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Canada. The ED oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations of the organization, including general management of staff and administration, program planning, community engagement, and financial management.

We are seeking an innovative leader who has experience with leading an organization that delivers a wide range of programs and services. You should be comfortable working with children, families, mentors and volunteers. You should possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, possess good self-motivation, proficient computer skills, and a positive outlook. You should be a leader who also understands and embraces cultural inclusiveness, is resourceful and compassionate, you learn and adapt quickly and can negotiate skillfully.

What You Need

As the ideal candidate, you will have two or more years of senior management experience, which may include previous experience working with a Board of Directors, and knowledge of governance practices and policies.

You have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher (eg: Economic Dev, Community Dev, Social Work), or have equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum 2 year diploma in Human Services.

  • You have effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivating. You have sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • You have excelled at building partnerships through community resources and support systems.
  • You have effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact well with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • You have successful completion of a Volunteer Management Course or ability to complete the course within 1 year of employment.
  • You have the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary in conjunction with current caseload.
  • You have the willingness to pursue ongoing professional development as related to the BBBSW program.
  • You have proficient computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Office and other related programs.
  • You are able to identify key issues and can creatively and strategically overcome internal and external challenges or obstacles. You are goal-oriented, detailed-oriented, and tackle projects in a proactive manner.
  • You are experienced in creating and managing budgets for an organization, and you have a sound understanding of risk management.
  • You have the ability to respect and promote confidentiality as outlined in the agency Privacy and Confidentiality Policy as well as the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
