The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba
Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of
Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Forestry Technician position within our Energy, Infrastructure & Resource Management Department located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the Conservation Coordinator, the Forestry Technician will oversee the mitigation and accommodation of impacts to Métis harvesting rights associated with Forestry Management and Operating Plans.

Job Duties/Competencies:

• Engage with Red River Métis Citizens to better understand and represent their historical and contemporary
resource use, cultural and heritage resource concerns, and conservation and ecological concerns;
• Work collaboratively with other MMF staff to coordinate and implement various meetings, programs and
initiatives, including traditional land use studies;
• Facilitate Red River Métis involvement in project planning and decision-making as it relates to projects with the
potential to impact Métis harvesting rights;
• Analyze legislation and regulations, project descriptions, and assessment materials for potential impacts to Red
River Métis Citizens and their resource use;
• Research and develop surveys and interview questions related to regional priorities;
• Participate in research and monitoring projects;
• Assist with the development and presentation of information to Red River Métis Citizens.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in social or natural sciences, or related discipline; a combination of education and
experience will be considered;
• Experience in research and/or program development;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
• Experience working with leadership and in community settings;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
