The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the official democratic and self-governing representative for the Metis Nation’s Manitoba Metis Community. The Manitoba Metis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one term Homeschool Support Teacher position within our Louis Riel Institute Homeschool Support Program located in Winnipeg, MB. The Homeschool Support Teacher will support our Homeschooling Initiative which is designed to assist students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 who wish to homeschool this year. During the current school year, a combination of online instruction, one on one tutoring and independent learning will be utilized, therefore familiarity with online Learning Management Systems and computer and web office applications are considered an asset.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons;
  • Encouraging student participation in lessons and in other school-related activities;
  • Evaluate and document students’ progress;
  • Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests;
  • Collaborate with other Homeschool teachers, parents and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Manitoba K-12 teaching certification (Bachelor of Education Degree);
  • Familiarity with Manitoba Education’s web-based course system or high confidence in learning new technical platforms is strongly preferred;
  • Experience at the Early, Middle and Senior Years streams;
  • Familiarity with issues specifically concerning Metis youth and adults, as well as an understanding of the Metis Nation issues is beneficial;
  • Ability to work within a small, highly collaborative team as well as independently preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and writing skills preferred;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Metis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset.
