Compensation: $40–$65/hr, based on education, skills, and related experience

Location: Manitoba – Fly-in positions to remote northern communities on a rotational basis (7–10 days in community / 7–10 days out)

Position Overview
The Mino Pimatisiwin Coach (Good Life Coach) provides wellness support, advocacy, and supportive guidance services to individuals and families through community engagement, outreach, and one-to-one supportive sessions.

Operating as an independent contractor, the MPC works from a holistic, trauma-informed perspective that respects and incorporates Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) cultures, traditions, and teachings. This role is suited for individuals passionate about community wellness, relationship-building, and supporting people in reaching their personal goals and highest level of wellness.

As an Independent Contractor, the MPC will provide the following services:

  • Supportive Wellness Services: Provides supportive listening, client intake, wellness check-ins, strengths-based goal planning, and brief supportive interventions to individuals and families.
  • Community Outreach & Engagement: Builds positive relationships within community settings and participates in outreach initiatives that promote wellness, healthy living, and connection to services.
  • Advocacy & Service Navigation: Assists individuals and families in accessing appropriate community, health, educational, and social supports.
  • Psycho-Educational Support: Assists in facilitating wellness groups, life skills programming, and community-based workshops focused on mental wellness, addictions awareness, grief/loss, healthy relationships, and self-care.
  • Collaboration & Community Liaison: Maintains collaborative relationships with schools, nursing stations, integrated health teams, and community agencies to support coordinated care.
  • Documentation: Maintains confidential and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and professional expectations.

Contractor Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum Diploma in Social Service Work (SSW), Child & Youth Care, Addictions & Mental Health, Indigenous Human Services, or related Human Services field, DSW, Nurse or Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Professional Standing: Must be registered and in good standing with an applicable regulatory or professional body (where applicable) and maintain active professional liability insurance.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in direct counselling, community development, family support, or group facilitation. Candidates with a mix of practicum and professional experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficiency with Owl Practice (or similar clinic management/EMR software) for charting and scheduling, and comfort utilizing its integrated telehealth/virtual care platforms.
  • Clearances: Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and a clean Child Welfare Record Check (if applicable) prior to commencement of contract.
  • Cultural Knowledge: Deep understanding of the ongoing impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma. Experience working meaningfully with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities is highly valued.
  • Cultural Safety Training: Evidence of completion of cultural safety training
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Language: The ability to speak an Indigenous language (e.g., Cree, Ojibway, Oji-Cree) is considered a major asset.
  • Certifications & Training
  • Crisis Awareness & Core Training:
    • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or similar suicide intervention training.
    • Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) framework application.
    • Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C).
    • WHMIS and Routine Practices/Universal Precautions.
    • De-escalation Skills: Certification in NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), or an equivalent crisis de-escalation training.
    • Harm Reduction & Mental Health: Training in Harm Reduction philosophies, Naloxone administration, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) – First Nations.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work independently within remote northern communities on a rotational schedule.
  • Travel & Adaptability: Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and a willingness to travel via small aircraft or winter roads to remote locations. High adaptability to changing weather conditions and limited local infrastructure.
