Municipal Internship Program – Administrator, Finance Officer, and Land Use Planner Streams

Overview: Join our 18-month paid internship program tailored to recent graduates seeking hands-on experience in municipal government within small and medium-sized municipalities in Alberta. Whether you choose the Administrator, Finance Officer (Accounting), or Land Use Planner stream, you'll receive top-tier training, mentorship, and the opportunity to shape your future as a public service leader.

Who You Are: We're seeking change-makers, problem-solvers, and leaders passionate about community impact. Successful candidates are motivated self-starters with a desire to learn about municipalities and communities, ready to become leaders in their fields.

Who Can Apply:

  • have finished or will finish an eligible program of 60 or more credits (or completed an eligible Masters or Doctorate) between January 1, 2024, and April 30, 2026
  • be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • not be employed as a permanent staff member of an Alberta municipality
  • willing to relocate or commute to the host municipality.

What You’ll Do: As an intern, you'll gain valuable experience in municipal government by collaborating with essential departments involved in governance, finance/accounting, and land use planning activities. Your responsibilities may include attending management meetings, contributing to policy development, assisting with budget forecasting, processing financial transactions, conducting research on land use planning regulations, facilitating community consultations, and other related tasks.
