Prairie Wind & Silver Sage – Friends of Grasslands Inc. (PWSS) in Val Marie, Saskatchewan seeks one full time Museum Coordinator for up to 12 weeks between June 1 and August 31, 2024. The position pays $16.00/hour. Application deadline is April 5, 2024.

PWSS is a recognized ecomuseum, art gallery, gift shop and espresso bar located in a remote, rural village. Val Marie is the Gateway to Grasslands National Park, an international destination, and candidates should be prepared to interact with national and international visitors.

Position responsibilities include:
• enhancing visitor experience by providing a welcoming environment, either in person, by telephone, or online;
• assisting with website maintenance and social media posts;
• documenting and digitizing artifacts in accordance with museum standards;
• providing services in the gift shop/espresso bar;
• answering questions and providing referrals as necessary.

Candidates should have interest and/or experience in these areas, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to health and safety. Communication skills and the ability to work independently are also required. Training is provided. Co-op work inquiries are welcome.

Important information: PWSS’s Heritage Building has stairs and no elevator, and staff are required to retrieve items from the basement. Weekend work is required, but work hours are daytime. Housing is not included with the position, however PWSS will assist in finding accommodation for the successful candidate.

• A Canadian citizen or permanent resident or with refugee status in Canada;
• Legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Between 16 and 30 years of age;
• Willing to commit to the full duration of the job.
• A full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the job and intending to return to full-time studies in the semester following the job;

About Val Marie and Area
Val Marie is a small ranching community (village pop. approx 120, area pop. approx 350) located 120 km south of Swift Current, SK. It is the Gateway to Grasslands National Park, a dark sky preserve, and the first national park of Canada to preserve a portion of the mixed prairie grasslands. The Val Marie region is a land of rolling hills centred on the Frenchman River Valley, where sky meets prairie at the northern extension of the Great Plains. Living expenses are low, and amenities include a grocery store, restaurant, bar, cardlock gas station, tourist accommodations, post office and library. Grasslands draws about 20,000 quality visitors to the area each year, most of them during the summer.
