Youth Addictions Stabilization Unit Permanent, Part-Time, 24 Hours Bi-Weekly: Evenings, Weekends

Paramedics are responsible for the medical assessment, care, safety, support and transition of youth in a secure or semi-secure, short-term stabilization unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs assessments, and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and interventions in accordance with Child & Family Services, Residential Licensing Standards and Primary Care Paramedic occupational profile and professional standards of practice.
• Provides medical treatment as required including physical and mental assessments, monitoring vitals, administering medication, skin and wound care, etc., and acts as a medical liaison with external medical and care providers.
• Participates in the facilitation of medical clearance and discharge of youth to and from the unit.
• Develops a strong therapeutic relationship with youth to support treatment milieu and role model healthy relationships.
• Recommends resources and provides referrals to address identified health concerns.
• Supports the development of treatment plans in consultation with a multi-disciplinary team, youth, and parent(s)/guardian(s);
• Provides educational information regarding addiction, harm reduction, and health promotion issues to youth, parents, and guardians and staff.
• Prepares clear and concise reports of relevant observations and evaluation of care, including medical charts and health records to ensure continuity of quality service, communication and client documentation.
• Participate in treatment reviews and team meetings to provide information regarding client progress.
• Maintains equipment and conducts quality control testing on a regular basis.
• Assists in the day-to-day tasks/routines in managing the unit, including direct support of the youth, as required.
• Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Accredited Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Program Certificate; current license to practice as a Primary Care Paramedic within the Province of Manitoba is required.
• Valid First Aid/CPR is required.
• Minimum one year of relevant working experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention techniques related to co-occurring disorders including those related to mental health and substance use from a harm reduction approach.
• Ability to apply critical thinking during stressful situations.
• Ability to independently interpret and apply protocols in response to clinical situations.
• Must be comfortable and competent in crisis de-escalation and behaviour management.
• Mental health/crisis training certifications including NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and/or ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention
Skills) would be considered an asset.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks.
• Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks.
• Knowledge of indigenous culture, or willingness to learn, including participating in cultural practices, programming and ceremonies alongside youth.
• Basic computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software.

Salary Range: H4-YASU $29.44 - $35.82
