Description

New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.   Culture, Education and Training (formerly TERF) is one of the many service areas offered by New Directions.  This service area provides support, healing, education and life skills to individuals ages 13 and up who have been exploited/trafficked in the sex trade.

We are currently seeking a term Teacher until June 2020 to join our team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivery of Manitoba curriculum; English, Family Studies, Physical Education/Health and Cultural Exploration (grades 9 – 11)
  • Assessment of student learning abilities
  • Implementation of Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods into the classroom as per Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Call to Action #62

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education Degree with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Strong understanding of literacy development, impacts of trauma and holistic curricular development
  • Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to Indigenous Cultures and Traditions
  • Experience working in special education is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and writing skills are essential
  • Energetic and creative and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a flexible, non-traditional multi-disciplinary program is essential
  • Demonstrated knowledge of classroom behavioral management strategies to best people

The salary range is $26.77 to $34.22 per hour (equivalent to $48,721 to $62,280 per annum), dependent upon education and/or experience.

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract.
