2026/2027, Fall Term, Course-Based Opportunities, Department of English, Drama & Creative Writing – Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses taught in the Department of English, Drama, and Creative Writing at the Brandon University Campus for the Fall Session in Term 1. The course may be delivered in an online synchronous format but preference will be given to qualified candidates who will teach in-person.

Qualifications: Applicants must have successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in English, Drama, and Creative Writing. They will hold a Master’s Degree in a related field, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the doctorate and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $8,132 per 3 credit hour course.

Fall Term: Classes run from September 9 to December 11, 2026 with an exam period following.

20:120 THEATRE PRODUCTION I – Slot 5 (Mond., Wed., Frid.12:40-1:30pm) – Fall 2026 – In person.
An introductory, hands-on course exploring the artistic, technical and organizational foundations of live theatre production. Students develop foundational skills in design, stage management and backstage safety while actively participating in departmental mainstage productions, either on stage or off.

20:163 INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE – Slot 8 (Mond. and Wed. 3:40- 5pm) – Fall 2026 – In person.
An introductory survey course that examines the building blocks of theatre. Its aim is to increase the self-awareness, confidence, and communications skills of its participants by employing relaxation, improvisation, and storytelling techniques.

30:145 CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE – Slot 4 (Mond., Wed., Frid.11:40am-12:30pm) – Fall 2026 – In person.
This survey introduces students to a rich variety of fiction, poetry, and drama in English, with focus on particular nations or cultural themes. Each section of the course is unique and is designed for students to learn the vocabulary of literary studies. The course emphasizes writing skills, with at least three essay assignments, and students will receive help, wherever needed, in planning, developing, and writing effective essays.

30:355 CREATIVE WRITING: THE SHORT STORY SEQUENCE – Wed. 6-9pm – Fall 2026 – In person.
This course examines the form of the short story sequence in works written mainly in the twentieth century. Students will be required to write a sequence of 4-5 short stories related by subject, character, perspective, or place, for example. We will explore a diverse range of linked short story collections by Canadian, American, and other international writers. The course includes weekly workshops and seminars, along with in-class writing exercises and an end-of-term reading.

30:367 ELUCIDATA: MULTIMEDIA POETRY WORKSHOP – Mond. 6-9pm – Fall 2026- In person.
This course offers students a chance to experiment with innovative approaches to writing poetry in a variety of forms, including sound poetry, oulipo science poetry, multimedia performance, and audio/video production.
