Contract Academic Staff, Fall/Winter 2024-25 – Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses at the Brandon University Campus for the 2024-25 Fall and Winter terms. These courses may be delivered in an online synchronous format, but preference will be given to a qualified candidate who will teach in-person. Please apply by submitting a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching attainment, copies of transcripts, indication of Canadian citizenship or immigration status, and the names and contact information of three referees in a single pdf file to the Office of the Dean of Arts. Qualifications: The Selection Committee will consider applicants who are fluent in Spanish (spoken and written). Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and/or related professional experience. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Office of the Dean of Arts on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $6,901.00/3 credit hour course (effective September 1, 2024)

Francophone Studies & Languages

58:SPAN:151 – Introductory Spanish I – Fall
This course is designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish. The emphasis is on achieving correct pronunciation patterns, and on developing reading and writing skills through conversation and comprehension of the spoken language. Laboratory work is an integral part of the course.

58:SPAN:202 – Intermediate Spanish I – Fall

The main purpose of this course is to increase student’s Spanish knowledge and skills. It introduces students to more complex forms of the Spanish verb system, pronunciation, and vocabulary and seeks to serve the ongoing development of the four language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. This course uses a communicative task-based approach which provides the learner with opportunities to use the language interactively.

58:SPAN:152 – Introductory Spanish II – Winter

The aim of this course is to enable students to continue increasing their ability to read, write, and speak Spanish. Conversation periods and a study of more advanced Spanish grammar are included.

58:SPAN:203 – Intermediate Spanish II – Winter

This is a continuation of 58:SPAN:202. The main purpose of this course is to increase student’s Spanish knowledge and skills. It introduces students to more complex forms of the Spanish verb system, pronunciation, and vocabulary and seeks to serve the ongoing development of the four language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. This course uses a communicative task-based approach which provides the learner with opportunities to use the language interactively.
