Facilities Manager, Full-Time, Continuing – Physical Plant

Reporting to the Director of the Physical Plant, the Facilities Manager will provide supervision, leadership and a safe work environment for maintenance trades and power engineers.

The Facilities Manager is responsible for building maintenance, including HVAC, controls, electrical and mechanical systems, steam production and distribution, fire systems, energy management; as well as ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and national codes. The Facilities Manager will assist in capital planning and budget preparations, as well as manage building improvements and renovations as assigned while ensuring the necessary permits and inspections have been obtained. The successful candidate will be required to provide relief coverage and participate as a supervisor on call; research, hire, and supervise work with consultants and contractors while providing in-house staff to assist when necessary; develop designs for the retrofit of existing equipment and renovations; monitor invoices and ensure proper coding; ensure safety regulations are adhered to; provide written estimates to customers and prepare work requests and work orders for projects; communicate regularly with the Director of Physical Plant to ensure the correct production of work orders and documentation; monitor payroll time sheets; and other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a 2 – 3 year post-secondary diploma in a Maintenance, Operations and Trades-related field, plus five (5) years related supervisory experience in a Maintenance, Operations and Trades department, preferably in an institutional setting, in addition to a comparable combination of two Journeyperson Trade Licenses (Dual Ticket), or a Third Class Power Engineer and Journeyperson Trade License. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Project Management Certification and experience is considered an asset.

The ideal candidate possesses superior communication and organization skills; the ability to use relevant analysis tools; as well as a proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities. They must also possess excellent customer service skills, teamwork experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams. Familiarity with risk management, quality assurance controls, along with computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as FAMIS 360, are considered strong assets.
