Duties:
– Shelve, shelf-read and straighten the library collection
– Circulation in Main and Music library: loans, returns, renewals, holds, monitor collection security, patron registration
– Handle cash and POS transactions
– Patron assistance (directional questions, basic catalog/database searches, manage appointments, answer the telephone)
– Machine operation, maintenance, and cleaning (computer workstations, printers, photocopiers, whiteboards and shelves)
– Delegate tasks to Student Assistants I/II in absence of regular library staff members
– Execute closing/opening procedures independently
– Library event set up/take down and other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
– Ability to work independently and with others effectively; ability to work courteously with the public; strong attention to detail, punctual and reliable; and excellent problem solving skills and self motivated
– Effective communication skills, reading skills and numerical abilities
– Familiarity with the library collections, library policies and procedures, and knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System, computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office
– Physically able to lift library materials, bend to shelve, maneuver large heavy book carts, and stand for extended periods of time
– Preference given to current Brandon University students (full or part time), previous library experience is required
Note: Successful candidates are responsible for completing both a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check. Candidates will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Must be available to work evenings and weekends
