Student Engagement Officer – 0.5 FTE, One-year Term – Recruitment & Retention
The Student Engagement Officer plays a key role in supporting student success, engagement, and retention at Brandon University. Reporting to the Director, Recruitment and Retention, the position collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and campus partners to design, implement, and assess initiatives that enhance student engagement, academic success, and the first-year transition experience. Through data-informed planning, program development, and relationship-building, the Student Engagement Officer contributes to a coordinated, student centered approach to improving persistence, academic performance, and the overall student experience. This position is for a one-year term with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities include:
• collaborating with faculty to develop success-based programming for courses with high failure or attrition rates;
• supporting the development, delivery, maintenance, and assessment of first-year transition programming;
• facilitating initiatives that enhance student engagement opportunities across campus;
• conducting environmental scans and providing planning recommendations to strengthen student engagement and success;
• collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting on participation data and program usage;
• completing program evaluations to assess enrolment, retention, and student success impacts;
• providing information and referrals to appropriate on-campus and off-campus resources;
• maintaining records in accordance with legislation and institutional policies;
• and performing other related duties as assigned by the Director, Recruitment and Retention, in consultation with the incumbent.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Bachelor’s Degree and are invited to contact the Office of the Dean of Students on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
The successful applicant requires experience supporting post-secondary students in areas such as student success, engagement, advising, or student support. The applicant should have experience collaborating with faculty and cross-campus stakeholders, supervising others, strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to collect, interpret, and report on data to inform program planning and evaluation. A solid
understanding of student development, transition challenges, and factors influencing student retention and success is an asset. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with equity-informed, culturally responsive, and inclusive engagement practices; and experience working in a unionized post-secondary environment.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
