Brandon University Travel Club

The Brandon University Travel Club connects academic learning with real-world experiences, cultural discovery, and lifelong friendships through meaningful international travel. In collaboration with faculty advisors Dr. Rhonda L. Hinther, Dr. Allison McCulloch, and Dr. David Winter, the Travel Club facilitates enriching travel opportunities for Brandon University students and friends.

Our trips are designed to blend academic insight with immersive exploration, allowing students to expand their understanding of history, politics, culture, and global citizenship while travelling alongside peers and faculty leaders.

Vimy to Juno: Canada’s Role in Wartime Europe

Our most recent trip was to Europe, and it focused on the theme of Canada’s involvement in the World Wars and Cold War. We travelled to sites in the following countries: Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and England. Some highlights of the trip were tours of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Site, the Anne Frank House and  Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach.

The transformative power of travel on our group was clear from the moment of departure, at the various stops along the way, and in conversation where we shared their impressions of what we had experienced. Some in our group had never travelled outside Manitoba or been on a plane before, and seeing Europe for the first time and having the chance to understand history and politics in situ, beyond the classroom was meaningful and engaging.
