Open Access at Brandon University
Open access makes research outputs publicly available and is required by the Tri-agency and other funders. Researchers at Brandon University are expected to make their work openly available and can meet these requirements through a range of options, including open access publisher agreements and repository deposit.
Your options
If your article is not published open access, repository deposit is the standard way to meet open access requirements.
When your article is accepted, you should confirm whether it will be published open access or deposit your accepted manuscript in a repository.
Publish Open Access
You can choose to publish your article as open access through an available journal.
- Many journals offer open access options
- Some “Read and Publish” agreements are available to reduce or cover article publishing charges or other costs
- Your final published article is available right away
Deposit in a Repository
You can also share a version of your article through a repository.
- This step typically occurs once your article has been accepted for publication and is usually your accepted manuscript (after peer review)
- Manuscripts can be deposited in IRBU or another appropriate repository
