X-Ray Diffractometer

The Rigaku Miniflex 6G X-ray diffractometer is excellent for high throughput, bulk qualitative and quantitative phase analysis of powdered samples. Both cobalt and copper cathode tube options are available so a wider range of samples may be analyzed. A graphite monochromator is available when using copper to remove fluorescence from samples with high iron concentrations. The facility uses a K-beta filter to reduce interference peaks. The Miniflex 6G is equipped with a D/Tex Ultra silicon strip detector so fast acquisitions may be obtained with minimal peak to noise ratio. For phase identification the following databases are utilized: ICSD, COD, and AMSD, with specific databases for clay samples. Both the direct derivative and Rietveld refinement methods are available for quantification.
