How does writing a test/exam in the SAS Test Centre work?
The SAS Test Centre provides invigilation for in-person tests/exams for students with approved accommodations. To write exams in the Test Centre, students must:
- Be registered with SAS, and
- Have requested their accommodation letters for the current term.
Once a booking request is submitted, SAS coordinates space, exam delivery from instructors, and the accommodations listed in the student’s accommodation letter.
Exams are typically written in the SAS Test Centre (Room 106, A.E. McKenzie Building). During busy periods, students may be required to write in alternate approved rooms or classrooms.
Can I write my online test/exam in the SAS Test Centre?
The SAS Test Centre provides invigilation for in-person tests/exams only.
For online tests/exams, students must discuss accommodations and how the test/exam will be administered with their instructor in advance, including how additional time will be applied.
Exception: SAS can provide invigilation for online tests/exams that are supervised in person in a classroom. In these cases, students must bring their own device, as they would for an in-class online exam.
How do I book a test/exam in the SAS Test Centre?
Students must complete the online Test/Exam Request form at least 5 full business days in advance. When completing the Test/Exam Request form, students must provide:
- Course name, number, and section
- Instructor’s name
- Date and time of the scheduled test or exam
- Classroom location
The Test/Exam Request form allows multiple requests in one submission, including tests or exams from different courses. Students are encouraged to submit one form with all known test and exam dates whenever possible.
What are the booking deadlines for the Test Centre?
All tests/exams must be booked a minimum of 5 full business days in advance. Business days are Monday to Friday, and do not include weekends or holidays.
Example: If a test is scheduled for a Friday, the booking request must be submitted no later than the previous Friday. Requests submitted on Monday for a Friday test fall outside the required booking period.
Requests submitted after the deadline will not be approved, and students will be expected to write the test/exam in class as scheduled. Rescheduling a late booking request on a different date is not permitted. Students will be notified by email if their request is not approved.
The last day to book tests and exams for the Winter 2026 is Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
Can I book more than one test/exam at a time?
Yes! Students are encouraged to submit one Test/Exam Request form with all known test/exam dates whenever possible.
Will I receive a confirmation of my test/exam booking ?
SAS does not send booking confirmation emails. Students are strongly encouraged to select the email receipt option at the end of the Test/Exam Request form. This receipt serves as confirmation of the request.
If a student is unable to locate their receipt or has questions about a submitted request, they may contact studentaccessibility@brandonu.ca.
What if I have two tests or exams on the same day and can write only one per day?
If a student has an accommodation limiting them to one test/exam per day, they must:
- Speak with their instructor(s) in advance to determine which exam will be rescheduled, and
- Obtain instructor approval for the new date or time.
Once approval is received, the student must inform SAS so arrangements can be made.
Can I choose my own start time for my test/exam?
Students are expected to take their test/exam at the same time as their class.
If approved, additional time may cause a student to miss a class immediately afterward; an earlier start time may be required.
Questions about start times that conflict with class schedules may be directed to studentaccessibility@brandonu.ca.
What if I have a test/exam scheduled in the evening or on the weekend?
For evening tests during the semester, SAS remains open to provide invigilation. SAS may require students begin writing earlier to accommodate extended time. Students will be contacted by email in advance if this applies.
During the final exam period, the Test Centre is open evenings and weekends to support scheduled exams.
What do I do if I am sick or need to defer a booked test/exam?
If a student is unable to attend a scheduled test/exam in the Test Centre, they must:
Approval to write a test/exam later is determined by the instructor and is subject to departmental or course-specific policies. In some courses, an alternate academic arrangement may be applied instead of writing the missed test.
Students with an approved accommodation that permits deferral for disability-related reasons may be permitted to write a test/exam later.
Once a new date and time are approved by the instructor, SAS can provide invigilation for the deferred test/exam.
Deferred final exams are subject to the University Testing & Examinations Policy.
What if I need to change or cancel a booked test/exam?
If a student’s test/ exam date changes, or if they withdraw from a course, they must notify SAS as soon as possible by emailing studentaccessibilty@brandonu.ca. Course name, instructor information, and relevant dates must be included.
Students who do not attend a booked test or exam and do not notify SAS may be charged a $15.00 no-show administrative fee.
