BCC Youth Choir sings O Canada at Bobcats Basketball Game – January 19

Brandon University School of Music Dean Greg Gatien, together with piano technician, Mark Cramer, made an incredible announcement at our April 27 concert.  In honour of Dr. Elizabeth Grant, a new Steinway will be purchased!  Deborah Grant and Srdjan Tanjga will match donations made toward this new instrument.  It will be selected by Liz from the factory in New York.  Then, it will make its forever home in the R.D. Bell Choral Hall, where it will be named “Liz” and will be enjoyed by thousands of musicians in its 100-year life span!  Piano keys can be purchased for $900 each through the Brandon Conservatory. A link to the donation form is found below.

NEWS FOR 2018-2019

As this school year draws to a close, the BCC Board wants to take this opportunity to thank each one for making your voice part of the Brandon Conservatory Chorale this past year!  The final Spring Sing Concert with Alumni has been receiving many rave reviews.  We had a fantastic turn out at our open house and are excited that many would like to join our choirs next fall.

We are happy to announce that Marla Fontaine will be added to Elizabeth Grant’s team and will take on the conducting of Tuesday Apprentice and Concert Choirs.

Marla Fontaine is the music specialist at École Harrison in Brandon, where she directs three elementary choirs, a grade 7 and 8 vocal jazz group, a recorder ensemble, and various Orff groups.  Before moving to Brandon, she taught music in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division in Winnipeg and directed the Divisional Children’s Choir.  Marla was also the choral director at Vincent Massey High School in Brandon.  Her choirs have had the opportunity to perform with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and to sing at the Manitoba Legislature.  They have won many awards at both the Winnipeg and Brandon Music Festivals.

Marla graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Music Specialist degree and a Bachelor of Education.  She completed her Level II Orff from the University of Manitoba.  She has had the opportunity to serve as a guest conductor for the Western Manitoba Youth Choir, Eastman Choir Workshop, Louis Riel School Division Honour Choir, and Children’s Orff Day.  In her spare time, Marla sings with “das Femmes”, an eight-member women’s vocal ensemble, and “Konektis”, an adult chamber choir.

We are planning for another great choral year starting next fall.  Heidi Howarth will remain as Dr. Grant’s personal Administrative Assistant and your Communication Liaison. or 204 724-0145.
