Council 2025-2026

Leeanne Gerry – President

Leeanne Gerry is a fifth-year music education student in the instrumental stream. She plays the clarinet and has studied chemistry as her second teachable subject area. Aside from her obvious love of music, she loves to read and practically lives off coffee. 2025-2026 marks Leeanne’s fourth year on council, and her second year serving as BUSMEA’s President. Leeanne is very grateful for the opportunity to be BUSMEA’s 2025/26 president and is excited to provide valuable contributions to the BU School of Music and Music Education community this year alongside the BUSMEA executive team.

Mya Kristjanson – Vice-President

Mya Kristjanson is a fifth-year music education student in the elementary stream. This is Mya’s third year on BUSMEA council and her second year as Vice President. In her spare time, she likes to read, teach piano lessons, listen to Taylor Swift (specifically folklore) and hang out with friends! She is very excited to become a teacher, and she is really looking forward to another year on BUSMEA council.

Ky McGhee – Secretary

Ky is a third-year music education student in the instrumental stream. She is a baritone saxophone major, with this being her first year as BUSMEA’s council secretary. Alongside music, Ky studies geology as her second teachable. She almost always has a cup of tea in her hands, and a batch of cookies in the oven. Ky is excited to begin working with BUSMEA’s executive council, and looks forward to providing her own perspectives.

Kaitlyn Greigson – Treasurer

Kaitlyn is a third-year music education student in the senior instrumental stream. She is a classical piano major and this is her second year as BUSMEA council treasurer. When not playing music, Kaitlyn can be found figure skating at the rink, playing video games with friends, or teaching swimming lessons. She is looking forward to serving on council throughout her degree!

Kaylee Carlson – Corresponding Officer

Kaylee is a fifth-year piano major studying in the instrumental stream. This is her second year on council, and she is the Corresponding Officer. Aside from music (especially the country genre), Kaylee enjoys shooting archery, riding horses, and reading. She is looking forward to connecting to the students in the School of Music and bringing them great professional development opportunities!

Kendalyn Penner – Media Relations Officer

Kendalyn is a fifth-year music education student who loves to take part in and teach choir!  She is a voice major and is super excited to conduct choirs one day.  Kendalyn enjoys baking pastries and has more plants than any one person should own. This is Kendalyn’s third year on the BUSMEA council as the media relations officer and she can’t wait to bring more choral education opportunities to Brandon University School of Music.

Veronica Casigay – Events Coordinator

Veronica is a second-year music education student majoring in classical piano, specializing in the elementary instrumental stream. This is her first year as BUSMEA’s Events Coordinator. When she’s free from the practice rooms, Veronica enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, or exploring new hobbies like learning an entirely different language! She is excited for a fun 2025-2026 year alongside the rest of the council!

Logan Malinoski – Third Year Representative

Logan Malinoski is a third-year percussion major, studying in the senior instrumental stream. She loves exploring Manitoba and seeing what it has to offer! Along with being a percussion major, she has spent endless hours starting to learn other instruments in hopes that she’ll be able to play and teach them as well as her colleagues do. This is her first year on the BUSMEA council and she is very excited to get the year going as the third-year representative for 2025-2026.

Matteo Bercier – Second Year Representative

Matteo is a second-year pursuing a music education degree. He plays trombone and this is his first year on the BUSMEA council as a second year representative. He loves most metal genres but also likes to explore other types of music. Matteo is excited to see where this year takes him and hopes to do his best as your BUSMEA second year representative
