Indigenous Health Studies Transition
The Faculty of Health Studies at Brandon University introduces the Indigenous Health Studies Transition (IHST) initiative.
The IHST is an eight month, 18 credit hour preparatory program designed to provide the opportunity for Indigenous students to build capacity for academic success, expand their knowledge in math and science, and develop writing skills while preparing them for a career in the health care field.
The IHST will have capacity for 20 students/year.
Two seats in each of the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) and Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BScPN) at the Brandon site are allocated for students progressing into second year through the Indigenous admission category.

The IHST initiative is in support of the mandate to increase accessibility and promote the success of Indigenous students at Brandon University. It is also consistent with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Call to Action (2015) recommendation for an “increase in the numbers of Aboriginal professionals working in the health care field (p.3).
