One New Thing 2025

(as in “try one new thing each term”)

One New Thing is a chance to meet with other BU faculty around teaching topics of mutual interest.

Day One, Thing 1 “How May I Help?”

Tuesday April 29th | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

This morning we will focus on whether GenAI might offer some timesavers for teachers.

Advanced users will speak to what they have found useful. Following a short question and answer we will disperse to rooms by interest. The advanced users will walk participants through the steps (bring your laptops) until they get the hang of it.

Participants will also receive a CTLTakeaway with more possible time-saving AI uses drawn from other teachers.

Later in the morning, a short presentation of a safe online space for student writing will also be made.

Day Two, Thing 2 “How May I Help?”

Wednesday April 30th | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

This morning we will focus on how to ensure that our teaching materials are useful to all our students.

The 5 most helpful accessibility hacks will be presented along with guided time to try it yourself (bring your laptops).

Participants will also receive a CTLTakeaway with more ways to support all the students in courses you teach (and comply with Accessibility for Manitobans Act)

Later in the morning, a Yuja Panorama expert will make a short presentation of BU’s new accessibility support system (which goes live by May 5 across all Moodle course sites).

Day Three, Thing 3 “How May I Help?”

Thursday May 1st | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

This morning we will focus on tough times in teaching. Experienced, problem-solving BU faculty will speak to new teaching things they have tried to better meet changing learner needs.

They will speak to what has worked for them. Following a short question and answer, we will disperse to small group or stay together depending on the wishes of the participants. Presenters will walk participants through the process that works for them.

Participants will also receive a CTLTakeaway drawn from BU Teaching Excellence award winners and Teaching Affiliates knowledge.
