Brandon University Indigenous Student Collective

The goal of BUISC is to provide services, advocate and support Indigenous and non-Indigenous students on campus. Our home base is the Indigenous Peoples Centre, here we gather, visit, study, encourage and eat together. One of the most important things we focus on is being together. Traditionally Indigenosu people lived in very close knit communities. Every person is valued, has a role, is looked after and contributes. From Potlucks to getting together to learn how to make bannock, we try to encourage this belonging in the IPC

BUISC hosts an annual Round Dance and assists IPC in their annual All Nations Graduation Pow Wow. Events that are Brandon University based are not our only focus. We have also organized an Idle No More, Bill C-45 rally in which a round dance was held on the corner of Victoria Ave and 18th street. We participate in the Sisters in Spirit Walk that occurs in the fall and held a Round Dance in support of Standing Rock.
