Janet Yochim

Janet Yochim received her undergraduate degrees from Brandon University. During her 33 years of teaching, Janet’s groups from Virden Junior High and Virden Collegiate Institute have toured in all the Canadian provinces from Halifax to Whistler.

In July 2007 Janet had the honor of conducting the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in her hometown of Virden, to help celebrate Virden’s 125 Celebrations. In 2016, Janet received the Manitoba Band Association Award of Distinction, an award that recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to music education in Manitoba.

Janet believes in music students receiving the very best music programs and therefore is the Past-president of the Manitoba Music Educators’ Association, an active member of the Westman Band Directors Association, the Manitoba Band Association and is the Manager of the CBA National Youth Band of Canada.  She is also an active guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator and Manitoba Band Association Mentor. Recently retired, Janet lives in Virden, Manitoba with her husband Brad.
