June 2nd Communication

June 2, 2020

Our mission has always been to provide safe and secure housing while promoting strong community values to enrich the academic experience. As the situation with COVID-19 evolves, we will adapt our services to meet the guidelines set by Manitoba Public Health to ensure that we can continue to provide a safe environment for all residents.

Brandon University Residence will remain open while the university will offer the majority of courses in an online format. We are confident that there will be a space and meal options for students who wish to live in residence. Understanding that each student will need time to re-evaluate their fall plans based on the online delivery of most courses, the residence office will be as flexible as possible in accommodating all requested changes. Room deposits will be refundable.

Knowing that student housing needs will change, we are currently looking into providing multiple types of housing arrangements for students, including part-time residence stays for students as well as the standard full time housing for those who wish to stay in residence the majority of their academic term. Details on these types of arrangements are to come soon.

Changes to our housing operations will likely impact current housing assignments that have been sent out. These changes may include, but are not limited to: changes in the residence hall, room type (double room, single room, etc.), and room rates. We will continue to update students with new information to their assigned BU student email account or its equivalent.

Our office will be available to answer any questions and inquiries regarding these changes. As we anticipate a heavy influx of communication, we will only be answering questions via email at residence@brandonu.ca. You should expect a response within 2-3 business days.

We understand how overwhelming these changes may be and we appreciate your patience and understanding, as Brandon University works hard to ensure safe and flexible student housing for the upcoming academic year.
