  • Janis has taken a leadership role in the Political Science club. She has fostered partnerships with The Women’s Centre and Brandon Pride
  • She speaks out in classes for the marginalized and defends minority rights in a variety of contexts
  • She is a natural leader in class bringing a community to the class by opening communication with other students, making them feel at home in the classroom and opening the door to contact outside of the classroom
  • Graduated from Neelin High School with a French Immersion Diploma
  • Janis was a competitive swimmer for 6 years
  • She took classical piano lessons for over a decade and played classical saxophone in provincial and international honour bands
  • Fascinated with the intimate, inseparable tie between politics and literature which has often been at tool that the oppressed have used to advocate for their communities
  • Janis hopes to work in human rights or immigration law, or pursue academia further in the area of Asian Gender Studies

I will #BreakTheBias by continuing to critically reflect on my own biases about sex, gender and sexuality while consistently striving to listen and learn from other gender minorities about how I can improve as an individual who cares deeply about bringing equity to marginalized groups.
