Welcome to graduation week, Class of 2020!

Dear graduates,

Hopefully, your “Grad at Home” planning is well underway and you are looking forward to this Thursday, May 28, which will very likely go down in the books as BU’s most untraditional graduation day in our long history.

When we had to make the difficult decision back in March to postpone your Convocation day, we initially envisioned simply moving our traditional Convocation ceremonies into late summer or the fall, when everything would be back to “normal”.

It is becoming increasingly clear that this fall, and perhaps the whole next academic year, is unlikely to be “normal” in our regular sense of the word. It is possible that public health orders will prevent us from holding large, Convocation-sized gatherings until sometime in 2021. We also recognize that, no matter when we hold it, some (or many) of you may not be able to attend a postponed Convocation due to employment obligations, further study at other institutions, a new residence far from Brandon, etc. So, we will soon be looking you to help us figure out the best way to mark the successful completion of your studies at BU publicly and formally. Next week, you will receive a link to a survey that will help us to source and prioritize ideas – please be sure to weigh in!!

Even though this message focuses on a future celebration, don’t think we’ve forgotten about this week. There’s more to come, so check back every day!

With warm wishes,

Andrea
