Hailing from Taiwan, Heng-Han Hou has emerged as a highly sought-after violinist, firmly establishing himself in Canada’s music scene with his intuitive musicality and captivating performances.

Heng-Han excels as a versatile musician, performing as a soloist, chamber player, and orchestral musician. Recent highlights include the premier of David Bowser’s Sonata for Unaccompanied Violin in the Shuffle Hour recital at the Toronto Summer Music, where he was featured as an alumnus. Heng-Han performs regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (substitute Associate Concertmaster). Since September 2020, Heng-Han has held the tenured Principal Second Violin position with the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the Regina Symphony Chamber Players. A notable crowning moment in his recent orchestral career was the honour of being invited to perform in the Coronation Orchestra for King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a rare opportunity bestowed upon only two individuals from outside of the UK.

Besides performing, Heng-Han is also an active pedagogue. He participated in the Intercultural String Exchange Project, supported by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, aimed to create a more diverse and inclusive curriculum by integrating multicultural string traditions in teaching. For this initiative, Heng-Han and his colleagues presented 7 concerts involving Arabic and Afro-Cuban music, and Métis fiddling. Heng-Han was also a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association, and worked as an ensemble coach and a piano accompanist at the North York Suzuki Institute. Furthermore, he held teaching assistantships for the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Music Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, while also teaching violin lessons as an assistant to Prof. Jonathan Crow. His excellence and commitment in teaching led him to be a coach in the Toronto Summer Music Community Program and the Lake George Music Festival in the United State.

Heng-Han received his Doctor of Musical Arts in violin performance at the University of Toronto in 2022 under the tutelage of Prof. Jonathan Crow. He recently joined the faculty of Brandon University for a one-year position.
