Research Interests

My current research project examines the symbols by which we understand climate change, comparing global warming to the Little Ice Age, particularly during the 16th-18th centuries in England. I'm particularly interested in how we used--and use--bees as a way of understanding ourselves and our changing world.

Past projects--but are projects ever really in the past?--include the theory of imagination in early modern English literature, and Shakespeare's use of therapeutic music in his plays. I've also published on emblems, science fiction, and Star Trek more specifically.
