Institutional Grants

Institutional grants are those awarded directly to Brandon University, i.e., in the name of the institution or President, and not to an individual principal investigator.  Institutional grants include awards such such as Canada Research Chairs, Canada Foundation for Innovation infrastructure grants, and the Research Support Fund.

Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is an independent corporation created by the Government of Canada to fund research infrastructure.  The CFI’s mandate is to strengthen the ability of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and non-profit research institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development that will benefit Canadians.

Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program

The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top five countries for research and development. This is accomplished via the establishment of research professorships in eligible Canadian degree-granting institutions.

Brandon University has five Tier 2 Canada Research Chair allocations. We are proud of our Chairs and the positive impact they have had on our faculty and the University at large.

Research Support Fund (RSF)

The Research Support Fund (RSF) helps Canadian universities cover a portion of the expenses incurred as a result of conducting Tri-Agency funded research and assists universities with maintaining world-class research environments.  The Canada Research Chairs Secretariat oversees and administers the Research Support Fund.
