What education have you taken?

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education in the instrumental stream. I am in my fourth year of study and on track to graduate in 2026.

What accomplishments are you proud of?

I am proud to hold several leadership roles within the School of Music. I currently serve as Secretary for the Brandon University Student Music Educators Association, where I help coordinate professional development opportunities. For the past two years (and continuing into this year), I have led a team of volunteers at the Brandon University Jazz Festival. Getting to help streamline an event that supports hundreds of Manitoba students is very rewarding.

Academically, I have maintained a place on the Dean’s Honour List and in the President’s Honour Society each year of my studies.

Outside of academics and music, one of my proudest achievements was representing Saskatchewan as an archer at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. The experience was so much fun and a reflection of my dedication to the sport.

Give a brief bio about yourself, your background, and your history.

I am from Estevan, Saskatchewan, a small city located three hours west of Brandon. I was raised on my family farm alongside my younger sister. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and llamas. Right now, I have two guinea pigs named Yogi and Boo Boo.

I play several instruments, primarily focusing on piano and alto saxophone. This past year, I had the opportunity to learn the oboe in one of my classes and quickly developed a passion for it. Exploring new instruments is something I find both exciting and enriching, and I look forward to continuing to expand my musical skills. I also really enjoy conducting, and I plan on taking a master’s degree in conducting one day!

Beyond music, I enjoy participating in archery and curling. I was raised playing these sports and began them at a very young age. I also used to play softball, and I was an umpire for many years! Sports are one of my favourite ways to unwind and stay both physically and mentally well.

How did you become interested in your field of study?

I began playing piano when I was six years old, and music has been an integral part of my life ever since. From a young age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the field.

While in high school, I coached archery and discovered how much I enjoy teaching and helping others succeed. It felt natural to combine my passion for music with education, and I am incredibly grateful to pursue a path that allows me to inspire the next generation of musicians.

What is your philosophy in life?

I believe in approaching life with gratitude and kindness. There are opportunities to learn in every experience, and even the smallest moments can teach valuable lessons.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself working as a music educator, inspiring and guiding young musicians while continuing to develop my own musical skills. I also hope to further my education by pursuing a master’s degree, with the possibility of continuing toward a doctorate.

In one sentence, how will you #AccelerateAction?

I will accelerate action by committing to programming at least one work by a female composer in all my classes.
