Registration

Registration Policy

  • Conservatory students who register and pay by September 1 will pay a $50 registration fee. Conservatory students who register after September 1 and who pay within 15 working days of the mailing of the invoice will pay a $70 registration fee.
  • A $30 processing fee will apply to all late payments.
  • Any interpretation of this policy will be at the sole discretion of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music.

Registration Procedure

  1. The student or parent contacts the Director or the teacher to arrange for lessons, determining the number and length of lessons to be delivered.
  2. The teacher submits a completed Conservatory Student Information Form to the School of Music Office.
  3. A registration form will be mailed to the student or parent.

Payment of Fees

  1. Conservatory registration forms show the total charge for music instruction. Fees must be paid in advance and can be made in eight monthly payments (September 1 – April 1), quarterly payments (September 1, November 1, January 1, March 1), or in full. Post-dated payments incur a $30 fee per family.
  2. A non-refundable registration fee is payable once a year no matter how many courses are taken, including 1:1 instruction.

Policies

Individual Instruction

  • In completing a registration form, the student and teacher are contracting for lessons agreed upon by both parties.
  • Lessons must be paid in full before instruction begins.
  • There is no refund for lessons missed by the student.
  • Lessons missed due to illness will be made up if at all feasible at the instructor’s discretion.
  • If lessons are stopped mid-year, written notice must be given to the Conservatory Director and the teacher four weeks in advance.
  • Lesson delivery method is at the teacher’s discretion with agreement from the Conservatory Director. Lessons delivered online are considered equal to lessons delivered in person.

Class Instruction

  • Registration for class instruction represents a contract for a complete term of lessons (in some cases 8, 15, 20, or 30 weeks) as interpreted by the teacher with agreement from the Conservatory Director.
  • There is no refund for missed class lessons nor for early withdrawal from a class.

Scholarships

  • All students applying for consideration for scholarships must be recommended by their instructors.
  • Full disbursement of scholarship funds is contingent upon recipients taking a complete year of study. What constitutes a full year of study is to be determined by the teacher and approved by the Conservatory Director. A minimum of 30 lessons, one hour in length, is normally required.
  • Scholarships may only be applied towards the following year’s individual lessons on the instrument or program for which the scholarship is awarded.
  • The Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music and the Scholarship Committee of the School of Music establishes criteria, rules and regulations which may be subject to change. Any interpretation of this policy will be at the sole discretion of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory and the Scholarship Committee of the School of Music.

Special Awards

  • All students applying for consideration for special awards must be recommended by their instructors.
  • Full disbursement of special awards funds is contingent upon recipients taking a complete year of study. What constitutes a full year of study is to be determined by the teacher and approved by the Conservatory Director.
  • Special awards may only be applied towards the following year’s lessons or classes as outlined by the award’s terms of reference.
  • The Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music and the Scholarship Committee of the School of Music establishes criteria, rules and regulations which may be subject to change. Any interpretation of this policy will be at the sole discretion of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory and the Scholarship Committee of the School of Music.

Collaborative Pianists

  • Arrangements for collaborative pianists for performances and examinations can be arranged through the Conservatory Director. Students should expect to pay fees for rehearsal and performance directly to the collaborative pianist. Payment must be made in advance.

COVID-19

  • For administrative purposes, lessons delivered remotely will be considered equal to lessons delivered in person.
  • We recognize that many families have to take extra precautions, therefore, no student will be required to attend in-person one-on-one lessons.
  • All students and instructors attending lessons or classes in person will be required to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols enacted by Brandon University. Conservatory Advisory Committee

  • Membership
    • Dean of the School of Music
    • Director of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music (chair)
    • Director of the Suzuki Talent Education Program
    • Director of the Conservatory Chorale
    • Two Conservatory teachers elected by the Conservatory Teachers
    • One School of Music faculty member elected by Music Faculty Council
    • One School of Music student who works in the Conservatory, invited by the Director.
  • Terms
    • Terms will be for two years (staggered).
  • Responsibilities
    The Conservatory Advisory Committee will:

    1. maintain a strong link between the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory and the School of Music.
    2. endeavour to keep Conservatory teachers and School of Music Faculty Council apprised of developments within the Conservatory.
    3. initiate discussion on other matters pertaining to the Conservatory.
    4. provide advice:
      • concerning the maintenance and development of the Conservatory’s programs.
      • concerning administrative and financial matters pertaining to the Conservatory.
      • as required, concerning the staffing of the Conservatory.
      • concerning the appointment and review of the Conservatory Director.
      • on other matters pertaining to the Conservatory as required by the Dean and/or Director.
