2012 BU Clarinet Festival Schedule

The Brandon University Clarinet Festival is an exciting annual event that brings together professional musicians, music educators, clarinet enthusiasts, and students of all levels. The festival events will include workshops, performances, product displays, masterclasses, a mass festival clarinet choir for all participants, and more!

The 2012 BU Clarinet Festival will feature world-renowned clarinetist James Campbell . The festival welcomes performances and classes by internationally celebrated artists such as  Wesley Ferreira (Colorado), Micah Heilbrunn (MB), Cecilia Kang (Michigan), Colin Mehmel (MB), Pauline Minevich (SK), Jana Starling  (ON), and BU’s own Cathy Wood.

Under the direction of Wendy McCallum, the BU Symphonic Band will perform Scott McAllister’s Freebirds with soloists Jana Starling and Wesley Ferreira. The Brandon University Clarinet Choir led by Cathy Wood will perform on various concerts throughout the festival and will also feature student and faculty soloists. BU welcomes performances by the University of Regina Clarinet Choir, under the direction of Pauline Minevich. All participants will have the opportunity to perform in the Festival Clarinet Choir!

Evening concerts will feature a Pro Series recital by James Campbell and Michael Kim, and a recital by the festival’s artistic director, Cathy Wood and her special guests.

The Brandon University Clarinet Festival, 2011

Last year’s inaugural festival featured artists from China, Canada and the USA: T. Patrick Carrabré (featured composer), Fan Lei (Beijing, China), Christopher Kirkpatrick (Montana, USA), Pat Daniels (MB, Canada), and Catherine Wood (MB, Canada).

Ensemble performances in 2011 included:  Brandon University Clarinet Choir, Brandon University Symphonic Band (with soloists, Christopher Byman and Suzu Enns), 2011 Festival Clarinet Choir, BU Clarinet Quartet (world-premiere of work by Manitoba composer Jeff Presslaff), and a Brandon Chamber Players concert featuring Catherine Wood performing Copland’s Clarinet Concerto and the world-premiere of T. Patrick Carrabré’s Winter Moon-Winter Sun for Clarinet and Orchestra.
