Spring and Summer Student Residence

From May 1st to August 23rd, students living in Residence stay in McMaster Hall and Flora Cowan Hall. All rooms include a bed, dresser, bookshelf, chair and night table. Sheets, blankets and pillows are also available, on a sign out basis, through the Residence Office. Flora Cowan Hall has the capacity to house all genders during the Spring and Summer sessions. Communal washrooms, such as the ones in Flora Cowan Hall, will be designated by gender identity and appropriate signage will be posted.

In order to qualify for Student Residence during the Spring and Summer, students must be saying on campus for 4 weeks+ AND actively studying throughout the stay.

Room costs listed below are approximate. Students who accept their room offer will receive a confirmation of fees that outlines the cost of their stay.

Room Types

  • Double Room – A spacious room that houses two students. *Couples Housing is not permitted
  • Economy Single Room – A cozy room that houses one student. Shared washroom.*
  • Standard Single Room – A spacious room that houses one student. Shared washroom.*
  • Standard Plus Single Room – A spacious room that houses one student. Private washroom. Available in McMaster Hall only.
  • Queen Single Room – A spacious room that houses one student. Private Washroom. Queen bed and executive style furniture. Available in McMaster Hall only.

*Shared washrooms in Flora Cowan Hall and Darrach Hall are communal.

Communal washrooms are a shared space containing multiple shower, toilet and sink fixtures. In Flora Cowan Hall, showers are individually enclosed by partition walls and an entrance curtain while in Darrach Hall there is a separate room with multiple showers with an entrance curtain for each shower. Both Flora Cowan Hall and Darrach Hall have toilets that are stall-type, with stall walls and doors, as well as sinks within their respective shared spaces.

Miscellaneous Fees

  • Application Fee
    Upon applying for residence, each applicant is charged a non-refundable $65.00 application fee. This fee confirms your interest in applying for residence.
  • Residence Student Association Fee
    The Residence Councils are funded by the Residence Student Association Fee (R.S.A. Fee). This fee ($60.00) is collected by the University on behalf of the Residence Councils, and disbursed to the Councils twice per year. It is from this means that the Residence Councils derive their operating funds. The R.S.A. fee is charged to each resident at check-in, and is non-refundable.
  • Facilities Fee
    Each resident is charged $85.00 per term for a facilities fee. The fund created by the collection of this fee is used for upgrading of residence facilities, such as replacement of carpet, furniture, renovations, etc. This fee is non-refundable.
  • Maintenance Fee
    Each resident is charged a $15.00 per term for a maintenance fee. The fund created by the collection of this fee pays for non-recoverable damages within the Residence Complex, such as those damages resulting from normal wear and tear, vandalism, and abuse of Residence property. Residents are encouraged to minimize damages in the Residence Complex so that this fund may be used to make significant positive changes, rather than fund repairs necessary as a result of vandalism or carelessness.
  • Room Change Fee
    Residence students who wish to move rooms may be subject to a $50.00 room change fee. This does not include moves based off occupancy requirements or those that are on a room wait list.
  • Rule Violation Fee
    Residence students may face a $100.00 rule violation fee, as per the discretion of the Residence and Ancillary Services. For instance, a residence student may be charged a rule violation fee after failing to respond to important residence communication.
  • Student Fitness Fee (Non-BU Students)
    All Non-BU Students are charged a fee of $48.90 per term so they have access to the Healthy Living Centre fitness facilities when living in residence.
  • Student ID Card (Non-BU Students)
    All Non-BU Students are charged a $28.00 fee for their BU Student ID Card (required for Hall Access and Meals)
  • Laundry Services
    $2.50 per wash
    $2.50 per dry
    Residents can add money to their laundry account at any time. Monies added are non-refundable.

How to Apply

Students must apply for Spring and Summer Residence through their eRezLife Portal.

Are you a BU Student?

You must use your BU username and password to log into your eRezLife Portal.

If you are not sure what your username and password are, you must claim your id . If you are having problems logging on or have forgotten your password, contact the Help Desk by calling 571-8500 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday or by email at HelpDesk@BrandonU.ca

Are you an Assiniboine/Other Student?

You do NOT need to claim a User ID. Instead, you must create an eRezLife account before you log into your eRezLife Portal.

Payment

Residence charges are due prior to or upon arrival. Payments can be made by cheque, debit, money order, bankdraft, or cash. Cheques are made payable to Brandon University. More information on payments made through online banking or internationally can be found here.
