FAQ’s
Below are a list of commonly asked questions from students.
If you don’t see your question on here, or if you need further clarification, please do no hesitate to contact us at residence@brandonu.ca.
How can I arrange a tour of Residence?
We are happy to tour you and your family/friends around our residences, understanding that tour requests need to be made 2 business days in advance by calling or emailing our office. They may also be requested through admissions during a campus tour. Please know that some halls or rooms may not be viewable just depending on the time of year. Once an inquiry is placed for a tour, we can discuss what is available to view.
When will I know my Room Assignment?
We cannot guarantee which room will be assigned until the end of August. This is because we are assigning spaces right up until move-in weekend.
Can I defer my residence offer to winter term?
The application itself cannot be deferred. Students will need to re-apply for the winter session through eRezLife. However, we will not ask the student to pay another $65.00 application fee.
I don't feel comfortable having a roommate. Will I be guaranteed a single room?
Most rooms in residence operate as a single room with no roommate. However, we cannot guarantee a single room for all residents, as rooms are offered first come first serve.
Can I request a roommate? And do they have to identify as the same gender as me?
McMaster Hall is the only hall that accommodates roommate requests. When applying, there will be a field you can indicate a person you would like to roommate with. We will only assign based on this request, if the other student also requests you as a roommate on their application. For students who have no roommate requests, we use multiple questions on the application to find roommates who may be best suited, based on their answers.
Pairings are assigned based on gender identity. Couples housing is not offered at this time.
If I apply, are there any guarantees I will get a space?
Student who apply for residence early in the summer are successful in securing a space in residence. However, as we get closer to September, rooms are usually still available, but we cannot guarantee hall/occupancy preferences. In the event we sell out of spaces, a waitlist is started.
Can I see my room before I move in?
We are unable to show students specific rooms before move in. If you request a tour, we may be able to show a room that is similar to the room that you’ve been assigned.
What should I bring when moving into residence?
We have recommendations in our Move-In Guide which is emailed to students 6-8 weeks prior to checking in. You may also find information in our Residence Handbook.
Do I get guaranteed parking?
Yes, while living on campus – parking is guaranteed, if needed. However, you will need to purchase your parking pass seperately, as it is not included in your residence fees. Information on when parking passes launch are on the Parking Services webpage.

I am thinking of returning to residence in the fall. Can I get my same room?
Yes BUT a couple things to note:
Our offers for returning students are still on a first come first serve basis. So, your same room is not guaranteed.
