Emiliya Mamleeva

What education have you taken?

I have finished high school, and am now a second year student at Brandon University majoring in chemistry and minoring in biology.

What accomplishments are you proud of?

While I was a high school student, I was a member of several school organizations, including Environmental Protection, Green Planet, and Chemistry Club. The members of each organization took part in various scientific competitions against other schools.

Tell me about yourself /your background / your history.

I am from Russia. After my high school graduation I decided to come to Canada to study in the area of science. I am enjoying studying at this university because of the friendly atmosphere and the high level of education.

How did you become interested in your field of study?

In high school, I became very interested in chemistry and biology. After I graduated, I knew that I wanted to devote more time to studying these subjects.

What is your philosophy in life?

For me, one of the important things is to live my life in the most humane of ways. I believe that people need to help each other and demonstrate compassion in order to build a better world.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself somewhere where I can apply my acquired knowledge and experience for the benefit of other people.

Nominator’s Comments:

Emiliya enrolled at BU in September 2009, after arriving in Canada from the Russian Federation, and is currently studying toward a Chemistry undergraduate degree, with a minor in Biology. During her time at BU she has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a GPA of 4.2 in Chemistry. As a result of this she was placed on the University honours list at the end of her first academic year, and received the Dr. N. Demchuk memorial scholarship in General Chemistry, awarded for the highest achievement by a female student in General Chemistry I and II. Emiliya has been active in the Chemistry department and currently runs the tutorial sessions for first year students. Emiliya’s achievements are particularly notable given that English is not her native tongue.
